Why are babies' hands and feet cold?

Patient's question:

My baby is a premature child, and I was very worried about the child's condition from the beginning. Recently, the child has been experiencing a series of issues, and I am very concerned, fearing that the condition may worsen. Could you please tell me why the baby's hands and feet are cold?

Doctor's answer:

The phenomenon of cold hands and feet in a two-month-old child suggests that the child is feeling a bit cold and needs to be kept warm. Additionally, it's important to take the child outdoors for some sun exposure. I'm not sure if you're in the south or the north. If it's cold in the north, you can simply dress the child in a warm outfit. Small children should generally be wrapped up.
Hiccuping is a common symptom during infancy. Persistent hiccuping is caused by spasms of the diaphragm, resulting from continuous contractions of the diaphragm. Diaphragmatic movement is controlled by the autonomic nervous system. In the first one to two months after birth, the child's autonomic nervous system, which regulates the diaphragm, has not yet fully developed. When the child is exposed to mild stimuli, such as inhaling cold air or drinking milk too quickly, the diaphragm may suddenly contract, causing rapid inhalation and producing a "hic-c hic-c" sound.
