Features: This textbook consists of 12 chapters, each covering a communicative topic. The homepage of each chapter provides a brief description of the English communicative level that PETS candidates should achieve. Each chapter is divided into 1-6 units based on the topic, with each unit covering a part of the communicative situations related to the topic. The textbook contains a total of 32 units, each including:
1. Dialogue: Several dialogue materials are provided based on each communicative topic.
2. Text: The text is reading material that reflects the topic.
3. Words and Phrases: Words and phrases are the new vocabulary and expressions that appear in the dialogue and text of each unit. This section provides the international phonetic alphabet, part of speech, Chinese definition of words, and Chinese definition of phrases.
4. Notes: The notes are targeted at the dialogue and text, covering three aspects:
- Introducing relevant cultural background knowledge to deepen candidates' understanding of the dialogue and text;
- Highlighting difficulties in the dialogue and text from the perspectives of grammar, vocabulary, etc.;
- Translating difficult sentences, providing examples to illustrate language points, and expanding candidates' knowledge.
5. Exercises: Exercises are designed for each unit's topic and key content, allowing candidates to assess their learning progress.
6. Supplementary Reading: To help candidates gain a deeper understanding of related topics and improve their reading skills, a supplementary reading is provided at the end of each unit.
At the end of the textbook, there are 8 appendices, including:
