Features: Based on Authoritative Texts: This book is based on the edition printed by the Yangzhou Book Bureau in the Kangxi era of the Qing Dynasty. The Yangzhou Book Bureau was established by Cao Yin (the grandfather of Cao Xueqin), the son of Kangxi's wet nurse and a former personal guard to the emperor. Cao Yin was a favored minister of Kangxi, serving as the salt controller of Huai'an. He was ordered to establish the printing bureau, which became an important cultural institution for printing national grand occasions. After the completion of the Complete Collection of Tang Poems ordered by Kangxi, it was printed here. Later published editions of the Complete Collection of Tang Poems often take the Yangzhou Book Bureau edition as the base, as it is the authoritative version of the Complete Collection of Tang Poems.
New Annotations Version: There are many "annotated" and "detailed annotated" selections of the Complete Collection of Tang Poems in modern society, but some of them are not worth their names. Annotations are provided for passages that general readers can understand, while others that general readers cannot understand are left unannotated. Some blindly copy from authoritative annotations without thoughtful consideration, allowing errors to spread for hundreds or even thousands of years without correction. This set of Complete Collection of Tang Poems learns from these lessons and corrects these mistakes. To ensure quality, the editorial committee specially hires experts from the Institute of Ancient Culture at Beijing Normal University to oversee annotations and proofreading, so that this book can achieve:
- No redundant annotations for passages that general readers can understand;
- Annotations for passages that general readers cannot understand but are omitted in other editions;
- Correction of errors in previous annotations.
Arranged According to Traditional Style with Modern Practical Index: The arrangement of the Yangzhou Book Bureau edition of the Complete Collection of Tang Poems is as follows: works by emperors and empresses are placed first, followed by music poems and yuefu, then the works of Tang Dynasty poets. Poets are arranged chronologically with brief biographies. Finally, there are the ci poems of the Tang and Five Dynasties periods. This arrangement makes the Complete Collection of Tang Poems the first relatively complete and comprehensive anthology of Tang poems, fully reflecting the prosperity of Tang Dynasty poetry. This book retains this traditional arrangement and adds a carefully compiled index for easy reference.
