How to wash a child's ears

Patient's question:

The child just born doesn't know what's going on, there are always red spots on their body, and they are spitting up milk. How do you wash the child's ears?

Doctor's answer:

Hello, there is no need for special treatment for your baby's ears. You can gently wipe them with a wet cotton swab. Avoid cleaning your baby's ears, as it can easily injure them.
Your condition may be physiological jaundice. In mild cases, it appears pale yellow, limited to the face and neck, or may affect the trunk, with sclera also becoming yellowish. It usually resolves within 2 to 3 days, and the skin returns to normal by the 5th to 6th day. In severe cases, jaundice may start from the head and spread to the limbs, affecting the entire body. Vomiting and cerebrospinal fluid may also turn yellow. The duration can last for more than a week, and in some premature infants, it may persist for up to 4 weeks, with the stool still remaining yellow and no bilirubin in the urine.
It is recommended to use blue light therapy, which can be effective.
