High blood count with persistent fever: How to handle it

Patient's question:

Lately, my boss has said that I'm not in good spirits, which has affected my work performance. Actually, I didn't mean to, either. I often can't sleep at night and sometimes feel anxious and uncomfortable. If it gets worse, I'm worried it might affect my health and work. What should I do if my blood count is high and the fever doesn't go down?

Doctor's answer:

White blood cell count is high in the blood test, which definitely indicates an upper respiratory infection. It should be appropriate to use Cefixime and Paracetamol with Chlorpheniramine. However, to finally bring down the fever, anti-inflammatory treatment is necessary, at least for 2 days of medication. Before the anti-inflammatory effect takes hold, there may be repeated fever. During this period, if the fever persists, physical cooling methods such as warm baths, alcohol rubs, and cold compresses can be used. If physical cooling does not reduce the fever, it may be necessary to use antipyretic medication. Paracetamol with Chlorpheniramine can also reduce fever. Suppositories like Children's Fever Reducer and Meilin, as well as Chen Gong Zai Xin, can also be used.
