Should a child with a fever use cold water or hot water?

Patient's question:

I don't know what's going on, but my child has been misbehaving lately and crying non-stop. Even the hospital check-up didn't help. Could you please tell me if a child with a fever should use cold water or hot water?

Doctor's answer:

In your case, you can first use alcohol to bathe for fever reduction, and then identify the cause of the fever. There are many reasons that can cause fever, the most common being infection, followed by connective tissue diseases, malignant tumors, etc. Don't rush to take medication. It might be caused by a cold, requiring oral antibiotics, cold medicine, antiviral, and antihistamine medications. If you have a fever, you need to take oral fever-reducing medications or undergo physical cooling treatment.
