The B-share market in China was established in 1992. Over the past decade, the B-share market has experienced storms and twists. Today, ten years later, the B-share market has finally seen the rainbow and has completed a corrective rise with a brisk and sharp upward trend. Looking back at the development of the B-share market, we see that policy factors have always been the driving force behind its ups and downs. However, analyzing the recent changes in the fundamental and policy aspects of the B-share market, we find that two policy messages have the most profound and far-reaching impact on the future existence and operation of the B-share market:
First, on December 2, 2000, Dr. Zhou Xiaochuan, Chairman of the China Securities Regulatory Commission, stated at the "2000 China Listed Companies Achievements Expo Symposium" that the China Securities Regulatory Commission is determined to actively and properly resolve the two historical legacy issues of the dual-track operation of the A-share and B-share markets and the non-tradable status of state-owned legal person shares. This was the first time the management clearly defined the B-share market as a historical legacy issue.
Second, on February 19, 2001, China's B-share market opened to domestic residents with legal foreign currency holdings.
