How is congenital preauricular fistula treated?

Patient's question:

Hole outside the small mouth secretes thick liquid. A week ago, I had a test, and the detailed examination results showed: no test. Regarding the treatment and effect: the hospital has prescribed medicine, but the effect has not been seen yet. I would like to ask how to prevent it.

Doctor's answer:

A person with a preauricular fistula infection who shows no symptoms does not require treatment. If the infection becomes inflamed, antibiotic and other anti-infection treatments should be administered, or the abscess may need to be incised and drained, along with local medication changes. Once the infection is controlled and the area has fully healed, the fistula resection can be performed. Before the surgery, a small amount of methylene blue is instilled into the fistula, and a probe is inserted into the lumen to guide the procedure. The fistula and its branches should then be completely removed in one go. If any part of the fistula remains and the infection recurs, subsequent surgery becomes very difficult.
