Features: This edition of "A Guide to Social Survey" (3rd Edition) not only better reflects the characteristics of the new era in terms of the content of social survey theory, methods, and processes, better meeting the needs of readers mentioned above, and advancing significantly in theoretical depth, knowledge, and practicality, but also has made substantial improvements in argumentation quality, content expression, writing style, and layout. Since the publication of the revised edition of "A Guide to Social Survey" in April 1996, more than 6 years have passed, and since it was finalized in August 1994, more than 8 years have passed. These 8 years have been a time of great changes in the world, a period of rapid development in China, and also 8 years of continuous progress in social surveys and the study of social surveys. Compared to these 8 years across the century, the revised edition of "A Guide to Social Survey" has fallen behind in both content and form, requiring a thorough revision. From April 1996 to March 2002, the revised edition of "A Guide to Social Survey" has been printed 9 times and distributed 91,000 copies, with an average annual distribution of around 15,000 copies, which is nearly 50% higher than the average annual distribution of about 10,000 copies of "A Guide to Social Survey" from June 1988 to April 1996. Clearly, this textbook has formed a relatively stable readership since its publication, and the annual distribution continues to rise. According to a survey of 300 sales records (representing 33.1% of the total distribution, i.e., 56,951 copies), "A Guide to Social Survey" and its revised edition have covered 289 units in 27 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions. The main readers are: faculty and students of social science majors in universities and colleges, teachers and students of various levels of Party schools, administrative schools, and training classes, researchers of various types of social science research institutes, as well as staff of research institutions in various government agencies and enterprises. To better revise the revised edition of "A Guide to Social Survey" and better meet the actual needs of the above readership, we have visited some readers and conducted some correspondence surveys.
