Features: The Jiezi Garden Painting Manual consists of three volumes:
- The first volume, Shanshui Pu (Mountain and Water Spectrum), comprises four scrolls, based on the teaching drafts of Ming Dynasty painter Li Liufang by Qing Dynasty painter Wang Gai, with additional revisions.
- The second volume, Lan, Lan, Zhu, Mei, Ju Pu (Orchid, Bamboo, Plum Blossom, and Chrysanthemum Spectrum), comprises four scrolls, with illustrations by Zhu Sheng and Wang Zhi, and annotations by the three brothers Wang Gai, Wang (Fucao), and Wang Mao (Sizhi).
- The third volume, Huahui, Caochong, and Huamuhua, Qiniu Pu (Flowers, Grass Insects, and Trees and Birds Spectrum), comprises four scrolls, compiled and illustrated by the Wang brothers.
The Jiezi Garden Painting Manual is named after Li Yu's Nanjing villa, "Jiezi Garden," where it was printed. It is a well-known and excellent painting manual widely used as an introductory textbook for Chinese painting. Since its publication, it has become a classic.
This book reorganizes the content and illustrations of The Jiezi Garden Painting Manual, refining its essence, and supplements the original illustrations with selected works by renowned painters from the past, either in full or partial form, accompanied by detailed explanations. The combination of text and images aims to achieve a clearer and more comprehensive understanding.
