Features: Over the past decade, with the deepening of China's reform and opening-up, socialist democracy and legal system construction have made significant progress. At the same time, the adjudication work of the people's courts has also advanced greatly. In addition to criminal and civil trials, economic, administrative, and transportation adjudications have been gradually introduced. Annually, courts across the country handle approximately 3 million first-instance cases of various types. The adjudication procedures have become increasingly refined, and the quality of adjudication work has continuously improved. We believe it is necessary to systematically select and compile court adjudication cases to introduce China's adjudication practices to domestic and international audiences, showcasing the achievements of China's legal system construction. At the same time, this serves as a valuable reference for judicial workers, legislative workers, as well as teaching and research personnel.
To this end, the National High-Level Judges Training Center and the Law School of Renmin University of China have jointly collaborated since 1992 to annually select and compile a comprehensive volume of adjudication cases, each covering cases adjudicated in the previous year. The volumes are divided into four parts: Criminal Adjudication Cases, Civil Adjudication Cases, Economic Adjudication Cases, and Administrative Adjudication Cases. Due to the limited number of transportation adjudication cases, which are insufficient to form a separate volume, they have been compiled into the Economic and Criminal volumes based on their case nature. The title of the book is "Essentials of Chinese Adjudication Cases."
During the compilation process, we have fully respected the actual case facts, adjudication procedures, reasons for judgments, and outcomes, ensuring objectivity and authenticity. To facilitate readers' understanding of the specific adjudication process, we have included details such as the adjudicating bodies at each level, litigants, adjudication timelines, the claims of both parties, the facts ascertained, the evidence accepted, and the applicable legal provisions. To help readers better understand the reasons for legal application and the relevant legal theories involved, the compilers have provided explanations and commented on any shortcomings in the judgments. Some versions also include appendices with brief explanations of key legal terms.
We hope that this case compendium will be helpful and well-received by our readers. This is our first attempt, and it is inevitable that there will be omissions and shortcomings. We sincerely welcome feedback from all sectors of society to help us improve our compilation efforts, ensuring that future editions of the case compendium become increasingly perfect.
