Tool Theory (Volume 1 and 2)

Author: Aristotle
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2003-12-01
Features: After the complete works of Aristotle (10 volumes) were published in Chinese in 1997, they won multiple awards, including the Fourth National Book Award (1999) and the First Prize of the Outstanding Achievement Award of the National Social Science Fund (1999). To facilitate reader use and to share his insights into Western philosophy, especially ancient Greek philosophy, Mr. Miao Litian, the editor-in-chief of the complete works, compiled and selected an annotated "Selected Works of Aristotle" (including volumes on Metaphysics, Ethics, and Politics, published in 1999–2000). Over the years, many readers, especially undergraduates and graduate students, have reflected that they need single-volume editions of Aristotle's works. To meet this demand, we have published single-volume editions of Aristotle's most influential works (Organon, Physics, Metaphysics, Nicomachean Ethics, Politics, and Rhetoric·Rhetoric of Alexander·On Poetry). It should be noted that the translations in the single volumes largely coincide with those in the complete works. Some changes to specific terms and names were personally corrected by Mr. Miao Litian during the reprinting of the complete works and the creation of the electronic version. The annotations in the single volumes are consistent with those in the complete works. The Greek words cited in the footnotes of the complete works are spelled according to the letter table of the National "Hanyu Pinyin" Scheme. The introduction and study of classic works of Western philosophy is an endless endeavor. Accurate and perfect translations, as well as in-depth and detailed annotations, let alone creative interpretations and developments, are ideals that can only be approached but never fully achieved. Continuously approaching this ideal relies not only on the efforts of the academic community but also on the promotion of the publishing industry. We are committed to working alongside the academic community to make continuous contributions to academic progress.
