Drawing inspiration from Western painting's treatment of light and shadow, he created a new style of landscape painting characterized by darkness, fullness, weight, and brightness. He published works such as "Li Keran's Paintings" and "Li Keran's Landscape Sketches" and authored "Li Keran's Art Theory."
