Features: In 2000, the authoritative American magazine Reader's Digest conducted a year-long tracking survey of writers and literary talents across five continents, revealing a surprising statistic: 91% of global reading time in fiction was spent on short stories. Based on this, the following conclusion was drawn: the 21st century will be the century of the short story! The "Collected Works of World Famous Short Stories" includes hundreds of outstanding short stories by dozens of renowned short story writers from five continents, all carefully selected and repeatedly reviewed by our country's famous foreign literature translators, critics, and scholars. These works are the most renowned, widely circulated, and artistically accomplished masterpieces in the history of world literature. The overall selection principle is "famous authors, famous works, and famous translations," gathering short story masterpieces from dozens of world literary giants such as émile Zola, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Stendhal, Nikolai Gogol, Maxim Gorky, Rabindranath Tagore, Anton Chekhov, Honoré de Balzac, Thomas Hardy, Stefan Zweig, Franz Kafka, Guy de Maupassant, Giovanni Boccaccio, Mark Twain, and Leo Tolstoy. The included works include "The Overcoat," "The Frog Prince," "The Nose," "The Necklace," "Mademoiselle de Maupassant," "Notes from the Life of a Hunter," "The Hound of the Baskervilles," and "The Decameron," among others. The translators selected are all outstanding figures in contemporary Chinese literary translation, and their translations are brisk-paced, varied in plot, and concise in language. They address the shortcomings of previous translations of classic masterpieces from different perspectives, showcasing remarkable features and filling gaps in the history of Chinese literary translation and publishing.
