How to deal with the baby's jaundice not yet subsiding

Patient's question:

These days, my boss said I'm not doing well mentally, which has affected my work performance. Actually, I didn't want to, either. I often can't sleep at night, and sometimes feel anxious and uncomfortable. If it gets worse, I'm worried it will affect my health and work. Regarding the baby, how should I handle it if the jaundice hasn't completely gone away?

Doctor's answer:

Your condition may be physiological jaundice. In mild cases, physiological jaundice appears pale yellow, limited to the face and neck, or may affect the trunk, and the sclera may also turn yellow. It usually subsides within 2 to 3 days and returns to normal skin color by the 5th to 6th day. In severe cases, jaundice can also start from the head and spread to the feet, affecting the entire body. Vomiting and cerebrospinal fluid may also turn yellow, with the duration lasting more than a week. In some premature infants, it may persist for up to 4 weeks, with the stool still remaining yellow and no bilirubin in the urine. It is recommended to use blue light therapy, which can be effective.
