Can newborns eat probiotics?

Patient's question:

The child just born doesn't know what's going on, there are always red spots on their body, and they are spitting up milk. Can newborns eat probiotics?

Doctor's answer:

Hello! Newborns (children born to those born within 28 days) should only eat newborn formula. At three months, children can start taking probiotics such as Hegen.
If a breastfed child has diarrhea, first check the mother's diet to see if it's due to improper nutrition. It is recommended that lactating mothers follow a diet that is nutritious, light, and easy to digest. Avoid overly fatty foods, as well as cold items like oranges, tangerines, oranges, watermelons, and grapes.
If the mother also has poor gastrointestinal function, such as diarrhea or constipation, oral probiotics like Chang Le Kang or Pei Fei Kang can help balance the intestinal flora, which is beneficial for the child's recovery.
Excessive bowel movements can cause discomfort in the child's buttocks. It is advisable to avoid wrapping the buttocks too tightly, especially when ensuring the child does not get cold. When cleaning the buttocks, use water instead of cloth. If cloth is used, avoid rubbing and gently press instead, as the child's delicate skin is prone to tearing, which can cause severe crying.
If the child cries uncontrollably, check if the buttocks are red, as this may indicate discomfort.
To prevent diaper rash, apply a layer of ointment, such as tetracycline ointment or eye ointment, after each cleaning. Also, change the diaper promptly and let the buttocks air out to prevent the ammonia released from urine and feces from irritating the delicate skin.
