Can a 2-month-old baby eat erythromycin suspension?

Patient's question:

The child has been crying non-stop recently and isn't eating much. Can a 2-month-old baby take erythromycin suspension?

Doctor's answer:

Based on erythromycin granules for oral use, adults take 1-2g once a day, divided into 3-4 doses; children take 20-30mg/kg per day, also divided into 3-4 doses. For treating Legionnaires' disease, adults take 0.5-1.0g four times a day. When used as prophylactic medication for recurrent rheumatic fever, take 0.25g twice a day. When used as prophylactic medication for infective endocarditis, take 1g orally 1 hour before surgery, and then take 0.5g 6 hours after surgery. Erythromycin and its derivatives are contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity.
