Patient's question:
I don't know what's going on, but my child has been misbehaving lately and crying non-stop. Even the hospital check-up didn't help. Could you please tell me what could be the reason for my baby not having a bowel movement for three months?Doctor's answer:
In your case, it may be due to deficiency of fluids in the intestines and dryness of the bowels, resulting in loss of fluids, lack of moisture in the intestines, impaired peristalsis, and symptoms primarily dry and hard stools, difficulty defecating, and signs of fluid deficiency. It is also known as the syndrome of intestinal fluid deficiency with excessive internal heat in the intestines. It can be treated with Bian Nai Tong Cha.0 to 4 months old infants are more commonly breastfed, with 6 to 7 feedings per day, or even up to 10 times. After increasing in age, they may have 3 to 5 bowel movements per day without a foul odor, possibly with a slightly sweet or sour smell. The stools of newborns, whether golden, yellow, or brown, are usually loose and either pasty or watery, possibly containing mucus or curds.
After 2 to 3 months, the baby's stools will gradually become softer and thicker, without being dry or hard.
