Features: Taking the study of ancient Chinese fiction as an example, at the beginning of this century, it truly became a specialized field due to the involvement of some master figures. It gradually formed three major research areas: first, the research on the family background and life of writers; second, the study of the writing process of works and the research on version and bibliography; third, the interpretation of the textual content of works. Lu Xun's A History of Chinese Fiction, Hu Shi's Studies on Chinese Chapter Novels, and Sun Jiaodi's A Catalogue of Popular Fiction in China can be said to be the most important achievements of the study of ancient Chinese fiction at the beginning of this century. Their emergence provided models and references for standardizing the study of ancient fiction, as well as the entire study of ancient literature, in this century. Regarding the classification of the upper and lower volumes, the upper volume is mainly divided by era, while the lower volume is largely of a general nature.
