How to wean a baby off night nursing

Patient's question:

The child has been crying non-stop recently and isn't eating much. How can I wean the baby off night nursing?

Doctor's answer:

I suggest you first delay his last feeding before bedtime to around 10 or 11 o'clock, and make sure he's well-fed. If he still wakes up in the middle of the night, try comforting him and give him water, but don't feed him milk. Don't worry, he won't be hungry. (The doctor said it's okay if he's a bit hungry at night, as sleeping doesn't consume much energy—the goal is to have him eat well and during the day.) Only feed him milk if he's still crying after drinking water.
