Firefly

Features: The Fireflies was translated during a period of spiritual distress I experienced in 1952. I spent several sleepless nights completing the translation, using it to commemorate a few women who were closely related to my life, especially my late, beloved mother, Lady Zou Aigu, and my sister, Yu Lan, whom I hadn’t seen for many years. We used to call her Jiu Sister when we were young. They were truly the "fireflies" of my early life. These short poems, each only two or three lines long, are like glistening pebbles on a beach, each with its own world. They are fragmented and brief, yet rich and profound.
