Can babies with cough take a bath?

Patient's question:

I don't know what's going on, but my child has been misbehaving lately and crying non-stop. Even the hospital check-up didn't help. Can the baby still take a bath when they have a cough?

Doctor's answer:

In your case, it may be a cold-induced cough caused by exposure to wind and cold. This condition is characterized by frequent coughing, thin white sputum, clear nasal discharge, pale pink tongue with thin white coating, heavy coughing sound, headache, fever, and even shortness of breath in severe cases. It can be treated with San Yao Tang combined with herbs that reduce qi and resolve phlegm. There are many triggers for respiratory issues in children. If the child is confirmed to have a respiratory condition, parents need to cooperate with the doctor for immediate treatment, including gastric decompression, and develop good hygiene habits. The child should have a balanced diet and avoid stimulating and cold foods.
