How to prevent epilepsy in children

Patient's question:

A friend's child, who is two years old, was diagnosed with possible epilepsy during a check-up. The child's father also suffers from this condition. The doctor believes it is hereditary, but also mentions that epilepsy can be caused by birth injuries in newborns. How can epilepsy be prevented?

Doctor's answer:

Currently, the main therapies for treating epilepsy fall into two major categories: one is drug therapy, which is the preferred treatment for epilepsy at present; the other is surgical therapy, which is suitable for refractory and intractable epilepsy that does not respond to drug therapy, as well as some secondary epilepsy that is suitable for surgery. However, this therapy carries certain risks, so it is generally not used as the first-line treatment. There are also some auxiliary therapies, such as acupuncture, implantation of needles, implantation of drugs, and external treatment devices, but these can currently only be used as supplementary therapies.
