Why does a child squint when looking at things?

Patient's question:

The child is 5 years old. Recently, it has been noticed that the child always tilts their head when looking at things and also squints a bit. Is it possible that they have strabismus and amblyopia?

Doctor's answer:

Symptoms of Children's Strabismus:
1. When a child has long-term strabismus, he will experience visual weakening in the affected eye due to lack of use. An eye that is not used enough is called a lazy eye; depth vision and stereoscopic vision require both eyes to work parallelly, so children with long-term strabismus may lack depth and stereoscopic perception. To use both eyes together, some children with chronic strabismus may tilt their head or face.
2. Poor stereoscopic vision, making it difficult to accurately judge the position and distance of objects in space. Concomitant strabismus may also cause neurotic symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, insomnia, conjunctival and eyelid margin congestion, and other symptoms.
