Features: Grand Scale, Outstanding Compiler Team The Sanxi Tang Preface is not only vast in scope but also contains numerous volumes, totaling thirty-seven. Its scale is unparalleled among official and private woodblock printed collections of calligraphy and paintings in ancient China. The compilation was personally supervised by the Qianlong Emperor, who selected and commissioned the engravers himself. The participants, including Liang Shizheng, Jiang Pu, Ji Hong, Wang Youdun, and Dong Bangda, were all renowned calligraphers and painters of the time, each possessing exceptional skills. National Treasures by Great Masters are all preserved within. The engravings in the Sanxi Tang Preface nearly exhausted the imperial collection of the Qianlong era. These treasures were created by either historical dignitaries or celebrated calligraphers and painters throughout the ages. Naturally, their calligraphic works are all priceless national treasures. World-Class Engraving and Printing The engravings of the Sanxi Tang Preface employ the most advanced color scanning technology in the world today. Not only is the clarity exceptional, but the ink layers are rich and the sense of depth is strong, fully restoring the original spirit of the calligraphy. The entire collection appears fresh and vibrant, with a captivating aroma of ink and an enduring artistic aura. Its printing technique is a rare masterpiece in modern China. Using a specially commissioned 100g fine cowhide paper, the prints exude an ancient elegance, as if freshly retrieved from the Qing imperial palace after enduring millennia of time. They have become so refined, so enduring in charm, and so deeply moving. International Standard Octavo with an Impressive Presence The Sanxi Tang Preface is presented in an international standard octavo format, a first in China. Within this scale, the characters are doubled in size while precision is maintained, further enhancing the spirit of the original calligraphy. As any calligraphy enthusiast knows, such a visual effect is rare and truly pleasing to the eye. The international standard octavo format also lends the Sanxi Tang Preface an extraordinary presence and brilliance. No matter where it is placed, it will capture attention—no one can overlook it. For any pure beauty is unforgettable at first sight. The Sanxi Tang Preface, formally titled Sanxi Tang Shiqu Baojibu Calligraphy Collection, was first engraved in the twelfth year of the Qianlong reign (1747) and completed in the fifteenth year (1750). After its completion, only a few dozen fine copies were personally awarded to favored court officials. Later, in the seventeenth year of the Qianlong reign, another five volumes of calligraphy by historical masters were carefully selected from imperial collections and engraved. By then, the Sanxi Tang Preface had become complete. It became widely disseminated by the late Qing dynasty.
