A baby's fall can affect the brain.

Patient's question:

Hello; My baby is 8 months old. Yesterday afternoon, while playing on the ground and crawling forward to pick up a small ball, the top of his head hit the floor tiles, leaving a large bruise on his forehead. I'm wondering if it's serious and if it will affect his brain.

Doctor's answer:

Hello, if there are brain problems after a head injury, it is often accompanied by unconsciousness at the time. Since the child is crying, it indicates that there was no unconsciousness. If there is no unconsciousness but the condition is severe, it may still lead to poor mental state, accompanied by symptoms such as mental dullness or nausea and vomiting.
What you can observe now is that if the child remains in good spirits, there is no issue. If any of the symptoms I mentioned appear, it is recommended to go to the hospital for a CT scan.
For the swollen area, you can apply local cold compresses for about 30 minutes. If the swelling persists after 24 hours, you can use heat compresses—twice a day, with each session lasting 20 minutes.
