How to treat a small urethral opening in a female infant

Patient's question:

Patient Gender: A 1.5-year-old female infant, with a small urethral opening, partially covered by a membrane at the top. The female infant urinates forward like a boy, spraying a considerable distance. How should this be handled?
Patient Age: 1.5 years old

Doctor's answer:

It may be a congenital vaginal opening malformation. Go to the hospital for an ultrasound examination to check if the uterus is normal and if there is a vagina. As long as the vaginal opening is reconstructed through surgery, it can meet the needs of future sexual life. About 1 in 4,000 to 5,000 female infants are born without a vagina, and she is likely to also lack a uterus. Fortunately, surgery can create a new vagina for them, and their future sexual life will be almost unaffected. If there is a complete absence of a vagina, an ultrasound can be performed to check for the presence of the uterus and adnexa before further treatment.
