What is diarrhea?

Patient's question:

The baby is ten months old and has been having 3-4 bowel movements a day for the past week and a half (not runny or dry, just normal). They have one bowel movement at 2 a.m., one at noon, and 1-2 in the afternoon. Is this considered diarrhea? They are breastfed and eat complementary foods, but very few fruits. Haven't seen a doctor yet and want to know if the baby should take diarrhea medicine.

Doctor's answer:

There is no such situation where the baby takes it together. This has only appeared in the past week. If this is the case, and the number of times per day is greater than three, it can be trusted that it is nausea and vomiting. However, since the baby's stool characteristics are normal, it may be caused by frequent bowel movements or catching a cold alone. First, carefully observe and pay attention to keeping the abdomen warm. When carefully observing the baby's stool, see if they cry. Then, if it still persists or if they cry, there may be inflammation, and it needs active treatment.
