What is the pathogenesis of pediatric hearing impairment

Patient's question:

Half a year ago

Doctor's answer:

Most hearing impairments are acquired conductive hearing loss, associated with otitis media and its sequelae. Almost all children have experienced mild to moderate, intermittent or persistent hearing loss caused by otitis media. Repeated episodes or severe infections can lead to permanent defects. Children with craniofacial abnormalities (such as cleft palate), immune deficiencies (such as transient hypogammaglobulinemia in infants), and exposure to environmental risk factors (such as smoking, day care centers) are most susceptible to otitis media. Boys are more prone to otitis media than girls.
