What is hip dysplasia?

Patient's question:

Developmental dysplasia of the hip

Doctor's answer:

It is more common in female infants, often combined with breech delivery, less amniotic fluid, and more on the left side.
Therefore, it may be caused by congenital factors determined by genetic factors, combined with some external mechanical factors. Typical hip dislocation occurs at a rate of about one in a thousand to one in one and a half. If hip subluxation and developmental dysplasia are included, the estimated rate is around one in twenty.
