Features: This vocabulary manual was compiled by the authors based on their long-term teaching experience in the IELTS Training Department of New Oriental School, following meticulous research on the IELTS exam. The selection and compilation of this manual adhere to the following principles:
1. Words and phrases that should be mastered at the high school level are generally not included, unless the word (or phrase) has meanings that go beyond the high school curriculum.
2. All words and phrases for the CET-4 and CET-6 exams are included. These words and phrases are common and essential for language communication.
3. Based on the analysis of a large number of IELTS textbooks published abroad and actual IELTS test questions, high-frequency and commonly used words and phrases are carefully selected.
4. Each word is annotated with the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), primarily using British pronunciation, including common meanings and phrases. The definitions are concise and do not include example sentences, as the IELTS exam primarily tests vocabulary recognition.
5. To help candidates effectively master all the words in a short period of time, this book adopts three methods in its arrangement: ascending order, descending order, and random order. This approach, similar to the nature of language learning itself, often achieves excellent reinforcement effects when these methods are alternated.
