Features: Prepositions are a highly active part of speech in English, with a small number of words but very high usage frequency. However, mastering them is challenging. This is because the meanings of English prepositions themselves are already complex (ranging from a dozen to dozens), and when they depend on other parts of speech in a sentence, their meanings become even more varied. Moreover, the specific meanings derived from prepositions combined with certain words in fixed phrases are even harder to deduce from the literal text. As a result, the saying "Mastering prepositions is equivalent to mastering English" is widely recognized. To help college students improve their ability to use prepositions, we have written this "New English Preposition Usage Dictionary" based on the problems encountered in teaching and the issues found in the CET-4 and CET-6 exams over the years. This book selects 50 common prepositions, each divided into two parts: 1) Meaning and Usage; 2) Common Phrases and Idioms. The focus is on the collocations between prepositions and other parts of speech. The number of entries covered is sufficient to meet the learning and examination needs of college students. All example sentences are accompanied by Chinese translations, allowing for comparative study and reflection, which will help you fully grasp the subtle meanings of these small prepositions.
