How to handle high fever in children

Patient's question:

Child: It's strange that the fever came on suddenly. After the fever-reducing injection, it went down, but at night it reached 42 degrees. Even after another fever-reducing injection, it didn't go down. Alcohol rubs didn't help either. The child is conscious and feels generally comfortable, but the check-up showed some issues with hepatitis B. Is it the high fever causing hepatitis, or is it the hepatitis causing the high fever?

Doctor's answer:

Prepare two different medications with different ingredients, such as acetaminophen (e.g., Tylenol) and ibuprofen (e.g., Motrin), and alternate their use. This can reduce the frequency of each medication by 24 hours and also minimize side effects.
The specific dosage method is as follows:
After taking acetaminophen, you can give the baby ibuprofen 4 hours later.
6 hours after taking ibuprofen, if the temperature rises again, you can give acetaminophen again.
If the baby's temperature rises again within less than 4 hours after taking medication, do not continue giving the same fever-reducing medication. Instead, switch to a different fever-reducing drug.
If the baby experiences high fever seizures, both medications can be used simultaneously, with the same dosage.
