The Great Series of New Chinese Literature is a collection of theories and works from the first decade (1917–1927) of the New Literature Movement in China, edited by Lu Xun, Mao Dun, and others. It was compiled and edited by Zhao Jiabi of Shanghai Liangyou Book Company and published between 1935 and 1936. The entire series is divided into ten volumes, with a preface written by Cai Yuanpei and introductions by the compilers: Volume I: The Collection of Construction Theories (compiled by Hu Shi), Volume II: The Collection of Literary Debates (compiled by Zheng Zhenduo), Volume III: The First Collection of Fiction (compiled by Mao Dun), Volume IV: The Second Collection of Fiction (compiled by Lu Xun), Volume V: The Third Collection of Fiction (compiled by Zheng Boqi), Volume VI: The First Collection of Prose (compiled by Zhou Zuoren), Volume VII: The Second Collection of Prose (compiled by Yu Dafu), Volume VIII: The Collection of Poetry (compiled by Zhu Ziqing), Volume IX: The Collection of Drama (compiled by Hong Shen), and Volume X: Historical Materials and Indexes (compiled by Ai Ying). In June 1981, twenty thousand sets were printed from the original books at the request of readers. In June 2003, another three thousand sets were printed from the original books to meet the demand of readers.
