Features: "The Great Dictionary" is a large-scale comprehensive dictionary. Its publication fills a gap in Chinese lexicography. To date, "The Cihai" is the only large-scale comprehensive dictionary in China, which includes single characters and general terms as well as specialized terms from various fields, combining the functions of a general dictionary and a specialized dictionary. It has a rich vocabulary, convenient retrieval, strong practicality, and is deeply popular among readers. With the accelerating pace of human knowledge accumulation and innovation and the improvement of China's national cultural quality, many readers with higher cultural backgrounds have raised higher demands for the consultation of "The Cihai." Therefore, while continuing to compile the new edition of "The Cihai" to meet the needs of the times, it is necessary to compile a large-scale comprehensive dictionary larger in scale, with more words and richer content than "The Cihai." The compilation of "The Great Dictionary" is based on "The Cihai," inheriting its strengths and expanding them, with a focus on adding new fields and new terms and definitions in various disciplines that have not been covered in "The Cihai," while appropriately filling in the gaps. The entire dictionary contains approximately 250,000 entries, totaling about 50 million words, which are more than twice the number of entries in "The Cihai." It is compiled and published in volumes according to subject categories. Volume One includes more than 8,500 entries on medical and pharmaceutical terms, with a selection scope covering: basic terms of various disciplines in medical and healthcare, medical figures, medical history and literature of traditional Chinese medicine, major theories and doctrines, physiological and pathological conditions of the human body's systems, disease names, diagnostic methods, and medical devices, as well as disease names and pathogens in medical microbiology, parasitology, and medical parasitology that are related to the human body and closely associated with it. Volume Two is organized into three major categories: General, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Modern Medicine. Among them, Traditional Chinese Medicine is divided into general terminology, medical history and literature, basic theories, pharmaceuticals, health preservation, and clinical medicine according to its traditional disciplinary habits; Modern Medicine is arranged according to basic medicine, clinical medicine, rehabilitation medicine, preventive medicine, as well as military medicine and other special medical fields and pharmacy. The classification categories are only considered for the convenience of consultation and do not represent the disciplinary system.
