Patient's question:

Over a month
Detailed medical condition and consultation purpose: The weather has turned cooler, and the baby is not doing well. Symptoms include nasal congestion, coughing, frequent waking at night, and crying. Elders have recommended giving the child "Zhu Po Hou Zao San," which is said to dispel wind-cold and treat colds. Please advise: Can a small child take this traditional Chinese medicine? (Ingredients include: pearl, scorpion, realgar, amber,,, mint,, wheat, licorice,, musk, honeysuckle, balsam, zhu yellow, fritillaria, etc.)
Duration of the current illness: Two days

Doctor's answer:

① Steaming Method: Boil a small handful of scallions or three to four chopped onions in water, inhale the steam through the nose, or boil vinegar and inhale the vapor. Both methods are effective.
② Packing Method: Mash scallions, extract the juice, and soak it into medical cotton. Insert the cotton into the nostril, or cut a garlic clove into a cylinder slightly smaller than the nostril, wrap it with thin cotton or gauze, and insert it into the nostril. The effect is also good.
③ Side-Lying Massage Method: If the left nostril is blocked, lie on the right side; if the right nostril is blocked, lie on the left side. Use both fingers to pinch the nose and massage the bilateral Yingshi acupoints for 1–2 minutes. The nasal blockage can be relieved.
Medical Advice:
④ Heat Application Method: Apply a warm towel to the nose, or use a hairdryer to blow warm air into the nostrils, or blow on the bilateral Taiyang acupoints, Fengchi acupoints, and Dazhui acupoints. The nasal blockage can be resolved.
⑤ Position Change Method: This method is suitable for infants. When an infant has a blocked nose, they often cry incessantly. In this case, hold the infant upright, and they will soon fall asleep peacefully.
