Patient's question:
Why is there yellow discharge from a newborn's ear?Doctor's answer:
Hello, it is suspected to be otitis media, and bed rest should be considered. Symptomatic treatment is recommended. Sulfonamides and antibiotics can be used for anti-inflammatory purposes. Before the tympanic membrane perforates, 2% to 5% phenol glycerin ear drops can be used, three times a day, with three to four drops per application. If the ear pain is severe, the tympanic membrane is bulging, or the perforation is too small with poor pus drainage, surgical tympanostomy may be considered. If the tympanic membrane perforates, 3% boric acid solution or 3% hydrogen peroxide can be used to rinse the ear first, and then one type of ear drop should be selected, such as 2% phenol glycerin, 2.5% chloramphenicol glycerin, 1% to 2% gentamicin, or 1% cinnabar liquid.
