Features: This Illustrated Dictionary is full-color printed with exquisite binding. It is edited under the leadership of Professor Xu Guojun, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Professor Wang Qiang of China Pharmaceutical University, with the participation of nearly 100 renowned scholars in the field of traditional Chinese medicine in China and units such as the China Medicinal Materials Corporation. This volume includes 86 local medicinal materials, arranged by province and region, with species listed in order of Chinese character stroke count. Each medicinal material is introduced with its authentic origin, botanical (animal, mineral) source, morphology, habitat distribution, cultivation (breeding) key points, collection and processing, medicinal properties, main production areas, quality evaluation, and medicinal efficacy, accompanied by clear habitat and medicinal material images. Authentic medicinal materials exhibit strong regional and inheritable characteristics, maintaining relative stability in their core production areas throughout historical evolution, such as the "Four Great Huaiyang Medicinal Materials," "Zhejiang-Flavored Medicinal Materials," Sichuan Medicinal Materials, and Southern Medicinal Materials. However, it should be noted that with changes in the times or due to environmental and cultural factors, the production areas of authentic medicinal materials may also shift. Taking Belamcanda chinensis as an example, the Shennong’s Classic of Materia Medica states: "Grows in the fields of Nanyang." Compendium of Materia Medica mentions: "Authentic in Chuzhou." Materia Medica describes: "Mostly found in Jiangnan, Huguang, Sichuan, and Zhejiang plains." Discrimination of Medicinal Materials notes: "Originally produced in Jiangsu and Zhejiang as the authentic source." Today, the main production areas of Belamcanda chinensis are Hubei, Henan, Hunan, Hebei, and Jilin, with Hubei yielding the highest quality, commonly referred to as "Han Belamcanda chinensis." Illustrated Dictionary of Authentic Medicinal Materials is divided into four volumes: East China Volume, Central and South China Volume, West China Volume, and Three Norths Volume, covering a total of 408 authentic medicinal materials, including those commonly used by ethnic minorities such as Tibetan, Mongolian, Uyghur, Zhuang, and Dai. The in-depth study of authentic medicinal materials is a complex systematic project involving multiple disciplines and fields, such as biology (botany, zoology), mineralogy, agriculture, forestry, geology, meteorology, chemistry, pharmacy, traditional Chinese medicine, management, and business. It is hoped that the publication of this Illustrated Dictionary will contribute to the promotion and development of authentic medicinal materials.
