What should epilepsy patients have checked

Patient's question:

I doubt my baby has epilepsy. I always see his hands twitching uncontrollably and staring at one spot for a long time.
What kind of help is needed: What tests should be done if the baby is diagnosed with epilepsy?

Doctor's answer:

To confirm whether it is epilepsy, an electroencephalogram (EEG) must be performed for diagnosis. If it is confirmed to be epilepsy, a CT scan should be conducted to clarify the cause of the brain defect. If the EEG is normal, there is no need for a CT scan. Epilepsy is caused by abnormal discharges of brain neurons, which cannot be detected by CT. An EEG can clearly identify the presence of epilepsy waves and does not involve radiation concerns. It is recommended that family members take the child to a regular hospital for follow-up as soon as possible. Once a diagnosis is made, treatment should be started immediately.
