What are the symptoms of infant rhinitis?

Patient's question:

What are the symptoms of a baby suffering from rhinitis?

Doctor's answer:

There are no effective treatments for rhinitis because the concentration of medication in the nasal mucosa is already very low, and it is not caused by a viral infection. Some older babies can use nasal drops to help constrict the mucosa, but before the age of three, we do not recommend using such nasal drops; it is better to let the child recover gradually.
Babies are prone to upper respiratory infections, and after such infections, many will experience rhinitis to some extent. We generally say that an upper respiratory infection can be cured in about seven days, but the duration of a runny nose may be much longer, lasting for more than a week, indicating possible rhinitis.
