How to massage adenoid hypertrophy

Patient's question:

I have a three-year-old child. The child was originally fine and had no problems, but recently, for some unknown reason, something has been off. I took them for a check-up, and the results said it was due to adenoid hypertrophy. I want to ask how to massage adenoid hypertrophy?

Doctor's answer:

Have the child lie flat on their back with their head resting against the edge of the bed.
1. Using the fleshy pads of both thumbs, start from the Yintang acupoint and alternately stroke along the midline of the forehead to the hairline tip, 36 times.
2. Using the fleshy pads of both thumbs, start from the Yintang acupoint and stroke along the upper edge of the eyebrows to both temples, 36 times.
3. Using the fleshy pads of both thumbs, start from the Yintang acupoint and push downward along both sides of the nose, 72 times.
4. Gently rub the two nasal wings with the fleshy pads of both thumbs while guiding the child to breathe through their nose.
5. Using the fleshy pads of both thumbs, start from the Yintang acupoint and push downward along both sides of the nasal groove, 72 times.
6. Massage the Yintang acupoint, the temples, and the Yingxiang acupoint for 2 minutes each.
7. Massage the tonsils under the neck for 2 minutes.
Have the child lie prone:
8. Using the index, middle, and ring fingers, stroke downward along the spine 40–50 times.
9. After the massage, have the child drink a cup of warm water.
10. If the child snorts while sleeping at night, try rubbing the area of the tonsils under the neck to see if it helps them breathe more easily.
Precautions:
1. Nails should be kept short to avoid scratching the child’s skin.
2. Apply massage cream or glycerin to the fingers during the massage to prevent irritation to the child’s skin.
3. Focus the force on the point of contact between the fingers and the skin to ensure the energy penetrates deeply.
4. Persistence is key—do not rush.
During the treatment, have the child take Xiangju tablets (for rhinitis) twice a day, once each time. To assist with nasal congestion, observe the child’s condition and decide whether to give medication.
