What are the symptoms of anemia in children?

Patient's question:

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, pulse-taking is said to indicate anemia.

Doctor's answer:

Due to the complexity of measuring the total amount of red blood cells in the systemic circulation, clinically it is generally indicated that the hemoglobin concentration in peripheral blood is lower than the normal standards of patients in the same age group, gender, and region. The normal standards in China are slightly lower than those in foreign countries. In coastal and plain areas, if the hemoglobin level of adult males is below 12.5 g/dL and that of adult females is below 11.0 g/dL, it can be considered as anemia. Children under 12 years old have hemoglobin levels about 15% lower than those of adult males, with no significant difference between boys and girls. In high-altitude regions, the normal values are generally higher.
