Features: The author of A History of Chinese Animation Art in the 20th Century, Zhang Huilin, was a graduate student studying art history. However, under the guidance of her advisor, Professor Wang Ningyu, she chose the topic of Chinese animation history as her graduation project. This was a gift she dedicated to society before entering the workforce, and it is truly commendable. Art history and animation history fall within the same artistic category, but they are ultimately distinct. Yet she was not afraid of the challenges, seeking advice from experts and extensively researching materials. In a relatively short time, she compiled this relatively systematic manuscript discussing the history of Chinese animation art, which is indeed rare and valuable. Especially in the current context where theoretical research on Chinese animation is relatively neglected and academic works are scarce, the publication of this book will serve as a boost for further research in Chinese animation history and the in-depth development of Chinese animation theory. This book helps us reflect on the historical progress of Chinese animation art. For the older generation of animators, it must evoke countless emotions. Starting from when the Wan Brothers began researching animation in 1922 and produced China's first animated short film in 1926, it has now been 80 years. Its inception time ranks second only to Europe and America, placing it among the leading countries in Asia. Due to various reasons such as social instability, Chinese animation has experienced a winding and arduous development path.
