Author: Li Jingtian

Publish Date: 2003-11-01
Features: In The Battle of Hedong, Jingtian truthfully reports on several farmers living at the grassroots level in Shanxi who, after enduring oppression and attacks from local officials, rise up in rebellion when their suffering becomes unbearable. In the conflicts where certain officials view certain issues as trivial but they are life-and-death matters for the farmers, Li Jingtian, in a calm yet highly meaningful, rhythmic, and dynamic narrative, mercilessly exposes the faces and behaviors of evil individuals and ugly actions, delivering a fair and truthful revelation and critique. He also lends moral and emotional support and assistance to the vulnerable farmers. In Warning of the Desert of Civilization, Li Jingtian extends his voice of support to primary and secondary school teachers in Ankang, Shaanxi, expressing indignation and a call to action over the situation where these educators pour their hearts into their work yet receive no guaranteed compensation, facing long-term (arrears), (embezzlement), and even theft of their wages. Additionally, his report on the Hebei Hengshui financial case conveys deep sorrow over the significant loss of national assets and righteous indignation toward the ignorant and reckless behavior of the perpetrators. All of these clearly reflect the author's sense of justice and moral inclination, as well as the boundless passionate spirit that resides in Jingtian.
Li Jingtian's reportage literature shares thematic connections but also maintains distinct differences. In terms of narrative style, I believe it has distinctive characteristics. When faced with the sharpest conflicts, injustices, and ugliness, his calm approach, detailed and analytical descriptions, suppressed indignation, and disdainful tone truly possess a certain charm and appeal. It is precisely in these more personalized aspects that Li Jingtian distinguishes himself from other writers.
