Pan Tianshou (1897—1971) was from Ninghai, Zhejiang. His original name was Tianshou, styled Dayi, and styled as Shouzhe. He also used the aliases Ashou, Lando, Leibotou Feng Shouzhe, etc. He studied early in Hangzhou and Shanghai and graduated from Zhejiang Normal School. At the age of 27, he became a professor at the Shanghai Art College and later held positions as a professor and principal at multiple art colleges. He was also the principal of the National Art College. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he served as the vice chairman of the Zhejiang Provincial Federation of Literature and Arts, the vice chairman and chairman of the Zhejiang Artists' Association, the vice chairman of the Chinese Artists' Association, a member of the National People's Congress, and the vice principal of the East China Branch of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. In 1958, he was appointed an honorary academician of the Soviet Academy of Arts. He excelled in Chinese painting, calligraphy, and seal carving. He authored works such as A History of Chinese Painting, A History of Chinese Calligraphy, Poetry Collection of Tingtian Pavilion, Notes on Seal Carving, Pan Tianshou's Artistic Works, and Pan Tianshou's Calligraphy and Painting Collection.
