Features: Toulouse-Lautrec was a legendary painter active in Montmartre, Paris, in the late 19th century. He was a noble descendant with a wealthy family. Due to a leg fracture in his childhood, he suffered from physical deformities. His parents nurtured his interest in art and sent him to study painting in Paris. There, he met Van Gogh and Gauguin and engaged in mutual artistic exchange. After settling in Montmartre in 1884, he immersed himself in the dreamlike life of Paris, depicting scenes of taverns, nightclubs, circuses, and places of pleasure. His works included both praise and satire, reflecting his complex and contradictory psychological state. Influenced by his avant-garde friends at the Independent Salon, Toulouse-Lautrec broke away from the conservative style of Impressionism and forged his own path. His sharp satire, bold compositions, and striking use of red and green colors made him renowned in poster and printmaking. This versatile painter died young at the age of 37 due to alcoholism, the same age as Van Gogh, and was hailed as the "Great Dwarf Painter." From the timeless works of Toulouse-Lautrec collected in this book, we see the legend of Montmartre's vibrant nightlife at the turn of the century.
