Is it normal for a child to have a bowel movement once every three days before drinking breast milk?

Patient's question:

My child is 4 months old, a girl, who is breastfed. Previously, she had a bowel movement every 3 days, but now it has been 6 days since her last bowel movement. How come she still hasn't had a bowel movement? What could be the reason? She shows no symptoms, still eats when hungry, and her stomach isn't bloated. Treatment history and effectiveness: None.

Doctor's answer:

The child's condition is due to weak colon function, so attention must be paid to the child if they do not have a bowel movement for more than two days, in which case medication such as glycerin suppositories must be used to stimulate a bowel movement.
It is important to ensure the child drinks enough water daily. Additionally, abdominal massage can be performed on the child (usually done in a clockwise direction, gently rubbing the infant's abdomen with the palm of the hand, with attention to starting at the navel and rubbing from left to right in a circular motion. It is generally recommended to massage for 10 times, rest for 5 minutes, then massage for another 10 times, and this process can be repeated 3 times.
