Features: The standard theory of urban form is not a new theory. In Chapter 4, we will discuss three different leading theories. The section of Urban Form is prepared to present these theories, which is the historical background about the essence of urban form and the debates over the value standards of form—the jumping-off point for our leap. The three standard theories in Chapter 4 are all influential theories, not only academically but also because they have long influenced practical urban decisions. I will point out the shortcomings of these theories. Another more general theory is arranged in the second part of Urban Form, based on the "spatial extent of urban activities." We will find that this theory itself has problems, but it is still a good starting point. The third part applies the theory to current urban issues and patterns, outlining a sketch of the ideal urban model.
