Features: The East China Military Region and the Third Field Army (including its predecessor the New Fourth Army combined with the Shandong Military Region and the East China Field Army) were the leading command agencies and main forces of the People's Liberation Army during the period of the National Liberation War and the early years of the founding of the People's Republic of China, stationed in the East China region. The East China Military Region was one of the six major military regions in the country at that time, responsible for leading and commanding the armed forces in the East China region. The Third Field Army was one of the five major field armies of the People's Liberation Army at that time, an independent field army group capable of executing major strategic tasks, which was gradually developed from the majority of the New Fourth Army in Central China during the Anti-Japanese War and a portion of the Eighth Route Army that remained in Shandong after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War.
In the late 1940s and early 1950s, under the correct leadership of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Central Military Commission, and with the coordination and cooperation of other military regions and field armies, the East China Military Region and the Third Field Army demonstrated wisdom in planning, bravery in battle, and formidable leadership, annihilating a large number of Guomindang armed forces and successfully fulfilling the glorious mission of liberating and defending the mainland of East China and numerous coastal islands, as well as other important tasks assigned by the Central Committee.
This book, based on detailed archives, documents, and memoirs, vividly records the glorious battle history of the East China Military Region and the Third Field Army, comprehensively introducing their self-construction, development, and evolutionary process. It is the first publicly published military history monograph on the same subject to date.
