How long does a baby normally have a bowel movement?

Patient's question:

My baby is 40 days old. Originally, she had a bowel movement every three days, but now it's been more than three days since her last one. I'm very worried.
Previous treatment and effectiveness: None
Expected help: Is this normal? What could be the reason?

Doctor's answer:

Generally, breastfed babies have 1-2 bowel movements per day at 40 days, while formula-fed babies may have 1 bowel movement per day or every other day. Your baby has a bowel movement every 3 days, and now it has been 3 days since the last bowel movement. This may be due to slow gastrointestinal motility, which could be partly because there is less residue after the milk is absorbed, leading to slower gastrointestinal motility. You can regularly massage your baby's abdomen, doing it twice a day with 100 rotations each time. If the stool is dry, you may need to add digestive water.
